SPEM

Based on zone-plate microscopy, the Scanning Photoemission Microscope allows spectromicroscopy of photoemitting samples. The best spot size achieved to date is 150 nm. Image contrast is mainly through core-level photoemission, which gives elemental and chemical-state contrast.

Currently, zone plates are available for scanning from about the Boron K-edge up to the oxygen K-edge and beyond.
